When I was a kid, we would go to the library at least once a week. Then, I got older and had an income, but less time to read, so I got in the habit of buying books. Now, circumstance have changed and checking out the local library just seems to be a good way to enjoy a good read.
I was totally amazed at how things have changed. Oh, I haven't actually been to the library in town yet. While looking on the town website for information about jury duty (which I have in a couple of weeks), I stumbled across the library's website.
Wow! The whole Library Catalog is online! I can search for books online and find out if they are available. If a book has been checked out, it tells you when the book is expected to be available. You can request a hold on a book and then they send an email when the book is available to check out. You can even renew your checkout online if no one has requested a hold on that particular book.
Then there is the whole eBook thing. Now, you can even "checkout" (download) a book to your computer or other reading device without even going to the library. The checkout period is the same three weeks and then the download deletes itself. Who knew?
This whole library thing could become quite an addiction! Well, I am off to get a Library Card! Oh, in case you were wondering, I never did find any information online about jury duty. Guess the courts around here just aren't quite as current on technology as the library. Nevertheless, I will show up with my Jury Duty card and a good book!
Take care and have a great week! Here is this week's Treasury:
Just in case you need more eye candy, here is another one:
I love the library! Hopefully our grandkids will know what a book is, and not just a Nook!
ReplyDeleteAh...the library! So many books...so little time! I still believe there is just something wonderful about holding a book in your hands and actually turning the pages!
ReplyDeleteI love libraries here! They are amazing! I practically lived there before my Etsy shop)
ReplyDeleteeven libraries have gone tech, our county library has self-check (I'm sure they laid off a lot of librarians due to that, though)
ReplyDeleteuniquecozytreasures- I love books too and libraries. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI always search the library site FIRST and only buy a book (or eBook) if they don't have it. eBooks are getting so popular!
ReplyDeleteWhen our computer crashed (which is way more than I'd like to say), we would visit the library. It was our first time in a few years...Crazy how it is now, right? You're right...A whole new way to feed the addiction to reading!

I love going to the library. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI suppose a lot of Librarians lost their jobs. Pretty soon the Library itself might not be necessary ...
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are both readers and he does WWII research so we have floor to ceiling bookcases filled to overflowing.
ReplyDeleteI hit the library at least once a week and use the computer to renew and reserve.
Love it!
I love to read! The library is the best!
ReplyDeleteI just made my first visit to the library in several years a few weeks ago - I forgot what a fun place libraries can be:)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love the library. And mine has this feature about Fave Authors...I make a list and they automatically reserve the new books for me. And, we have drive up. Way cool.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are big readers. We also have floor to ceiling bookcases overflowing. I've started collecting many of my paperbacks and books I don't want to keep and sending them to our wounded and rehabilitating vets at the Fisher House through Galla when I get a box full.
ReplyDeleteI just went to the library today. I love the library! So many good books and so little time! Sadly I can only carry so many home with me. That's why I go every week.
ReplyDeleteI love the library! Often times the good books are always checked out! Boo, but that doesn't stop me from going :)
ReplyDeleteI don't go to the library that often. We have so many books in my house. I don't read as much as I should though, because when I do, nothing else gets done.
ReplyDeleteToo funny! My kiddos think it is a playground. Amazing how intrigued they are with the books there, (not so much the ones at home) But I didn't know they could download a checkout! Thanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteLibraries are one of a kind and it's so sad to me that electronic means are replacing books. But...that being said, there's something to having any book you wish beneath your fingers in just a few seconds.
ReplyDeleteOnline library catalogs bug me LOL!
ReplyDeleteI too have shelves full of books. I really have gotten out of the habit of reading, which I used to really enjoy. I haven't been to a library in decades, isn't that pitiful. So high tech now, who knew!
ReplyDeleteI love reading! I have so many books. I want to keep up with the technology (and save money at the library), but I just love buying a book and holding it in my hands...i'm a wee bit obsessed w/books!
ReplyDeleteI've become addicted to reading since the 2nd grade! I read a lot less now but I always have a good book by the bed... with some dust on it maybe but nevertheless a good book:))
